We've been owned by Berger Picards since 2004, originally drawn to their unique looks and their loving and protective nature. So it was that year we took a trip to Kansas to bring home our heart dog, Valentine. She was the heart to our origin story with this incredible breed. Berger Picards are big, very vocal - talking, not barking - passionately loving dogs. Despite being French sheep herders, Berger Picards prefer to spend most of their time in the house and possibly in your bed. They do however need room to exercise. At 60 or so pounds, they are still lap dogs, craving close contact with their humans. They are smart and very loyal. We practice Carmen Battaglia's "Early Neurological Stimulation" techniques on the puppies, which turns out even smarter, more even natured dogs.
Berger Picards are the dogs used in the movie "Because of Winn Dixie". The movie does an excellent job of portraying the nature of this unique and lovable breed.
Berger Picards are very sensitive to praise and criticism. They want to please their people and can easily be crushed by severe criticism. Being so sensitive to their people, they learn words and actions and seem to know what we are going to do almost before we do.
